Our National Equestrian Academy at North Canterbury Community College has an outstanding reputation in the equine industry with job opportunities often offered to our students before the end of their training.
The Equine Skills Level 2 course is an introduction to the Equine Industry with a focus on working safely and effectively around horses. It's ideal for those wanting to further their knowledge of horses or those who'd like to prepare for a career in the equine industry.
Students work towards NZQA units covering both theoretical knowledge of horse management and practical day-to-day care and keeping of horses. About 65% of the course is practical.
This qualification is a stepping stone to higher level equine qualifications

- Horse behaviour and anatomy
- Facility and equipment maintenance
- Employment skills with industry visits

New Zealand Certificate in Equine Skills (Level 3)
The level 3 course provides the skills and knowledge to assist in the stabling care, exercise and management of horses. This follow-on qualification is FEE PAYING.

The National Equestrian Academy is located at the North Canterbury Community College in Rangiora. The Academy is situated on a picturesque 7 hectare site with wonderful facilities and 15-20 horses on site.

> Course Fees & Eligibility: FREE for 16-19 year olds*
To participate in this course and qualify for free training under the Youth Guarantee initiative, students must:
- be 16-19 years of age at the start of the Youth Guarantee programme;
- be a New Zealand citizen or have New Zealand permanent residency;
- be prepared to study full-time for 1 year in a level 1-3 programme;
- not be enrolled in school & a Youth Guarantee programme simultaneously;
Students must also have an interest in horse care & management.
