New research will provide evidence of pathways taken

New research being conducted by the Collaborative for Research and Training in Youth Health and Development and supported by Community Colleges New Zealand, Unitec, the YMCA, and Ako Aotearoa will provide evidence of the longer-term pathways for young people who have been students on the Government’s fees-free Youth Guarantee programme.

Success at Hairdressing Championships

The Southland Regional Hairdressing Competition was held on 19 July 2015. Three of Southland Community College's students (Sinead, Dolly and Kaleb) along with their models have worked extremely hard; putting in early morning starts and out of course time in preparation for this competition. Congratulations to Sinead who was awarded 2nd in the Novice Styling First Year caetgory.

On The World Stage

Beryl Wilcox, manager Community College Southland was very fortunate to be selected to present her research findings at the 24th National Vocational Education and Training Research Conference at the University of Western Sydney on 6-8 July 2015. While most of the attendees were from Australia, there were others from New Zealand, China, Afghanistan and the United Kingdom.

Community short courses in 2016?

The Community Colleges (Nelson, Marlborough, North Canterbury, South Canterbury, Dunedin, Southland) are hoping to run some short courses in 2016 and we would like to hear your feedback through our very quick survey. The courses proposed are budgeting, health and wellbeing and the learner drivers licence. They would run over 4 weeks with a 2 hour session each week. Please help us and complete our survey (our survey closed 5pm 27 May).

Thanks to our generous funders

The Community Colleges at Southland, North Canterbury and Marlborough are thrilled with the grants that have been provided by the ILT Foundation and Community Trust of Southland  (for Southland), The Southern Trust (for North Canterbury) and Redwood Trust (for Marlborough). Thanks to these grants we have been able to purchase Chromebooks and Chromeboxes. Our learners are now up with the latest technology and the learning opportunities with Google Apps for Education are very exciting! A very sincere thanks for supporting our Colleges.

We have recently reviewed the services that we offer at Community College North Canterbury to ensure we continue to meet the training and employment needs of the community.  We have decided not to renew the Training for Work ‘Job Connection’ and ‘Work Based Training’ programmes at our College after 30 June 2013.  Our decision has not been taken lightly as we have provided these services since we began in 1983 and have long term staff extremely skilled in this area of training.
