17 Years and Under - Free Training and Mentoring

There are opportunities at ComCol for young people to develop the skills to move smoothly into higher education
or the workforce.

The best things about the opportunities below is that they are fully funded and therefore free of charge to most 16 & 17
year olds and some 15
year olds. Most programmes have multiple start dates so you can usually start a programme
very soon after you contact us.

Youth Guarantee Programmes

We offer FREE Youth Guarantee Programmes to 16 & 17
year olds (and 18-19 year olds) under the Youth Guarantee Initiative which will give students a qualification at Level 1-3
of the National Qualifications Framework in a vocational field.
These programmes are 44 weeks in length and are offered
in a range of fields such as barista training, agriculture, cookery, retail, outdoors and salon support.

Mentoring and Youth Service

We offer a FREE Youth Service in Marlborough, North Canterbury, South Canterbury,Otago and Southland regions.
The aim of the service is to get young people into education, training or work-based learning. If you are 16 or 17 and not in education, training or work, our Youth Service can probably
help you. We may also be able to help you if you are 15 years
old and no longer attending school. One of our Youth Advisors would work closely with you to assess your needs and to
develop an individualised training/career. Find out more.

STAR Programmes

In some instances we can offer STAR programmes for year
11-13 students who are still at school but who want to learn vocational skills not taught at their highschool. In this case, the student still attends high school, but studies at our college
in a chosen subject to gain credits towards industry or tertiary qualifications. P
lease contact your local College
for more details.
